The hiking on Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona is for intermediates and experts alike but not for the faint of heart. With an elevation of 2,704 feet, it is a climber’s dream. The mountain itself is located in the Camelback Mountain Echo Canyon Recreation Area between Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Paradise Valley. You will see lots of tourists and locals out on these trails any given day of the week and because of the weather in Phoenix on almost any day of the year.
On these trails, you will see panoramic views of Phoenix and be able to take in the impressive geography that surrounds it. You will see large Saguaro Cactus in droves, as well as other typical desert flora and fauna. You can park for both trails from sunrise to sunset so you have to be off the mountain by sunset.
As a hiker, you will be tested on some of the trails as the inclines become at some points only climbable. There are two hiking trails on the mountain, Cholla and Echo Canyon. Both trails are difficult and require focus. You can schedule guided hikes on Camelback Mountain when group leaders will help you up the face of the mountain. There are many different hiking groups on the mountain on any given day do you will never feel isolated on either trail. Hikers and climbers should beware of the heat in the summer months because there is little foliage coverage.
