Phoenix Sonoran Preserve is located in North Phoenix. The preserve encompasses more than 9,600 acres. You will see a variety of desert plant life around you and the sunrises are particularly beautiful. The desert vegetation includes Saguaros, Barrels Cactus, Prickly Pear, and Cholla to name a few.

Within the preserve, there are different routes for different level hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Tourists and locals love these trails for their views and extensive mileage. There are three trailhead locations situated on the Sonoran Preserve: Desert Vista, Desert Hills, and Apache Wash. Together the three trails offer 36 miles of trails. These trails are trafficked extensively seven days a week. The three trails offer different inclines and components so you will want to pick according to your comfort level. The elevation gain can be difficult for some hikers.

In most months you will want to be careful of heat and sun exposure. In the summer temperatures can prove too hot for afternoon visits and hikes are better suited for AM visits. The views from the vistas are quite spectacular. The preserve lands are extensive and you can spend a whole day hiking the many routes of past travelers. You will want to pack plenty of water for your visit to the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve.
