Custom: These cabinets are designed for your specifications in your home. These cabinets can be designed to your liking. Some things that can be changed are the material, color, and finish. Custom cabinets cost about $500 to $1200 per linear foot.

Semi-custom: These are like the stock cabinets with a few extra touches to your liking. Some things that you can change from the stock cabinets are the drawer sizes, color, or finish. These cabinets are about $150 to $600 (per linear foot) with about a 4-week delivery.

It really depends on what type of cabinets you like. I recommend getting the semi-custom cabinet so that things can be changed but still stays relatively cheap. Also, when deciding what cabinets you want, it might be a good idea to get help from someone specialized in the field.

Framed cabinets or frameless cabinets?

When looking for cabinets, you might want to consider if you want frames. What I mean by frames it when you open the cupboard door, do you want ledges on the side? If you want a more luxurious look, I recommend a framed cabinet. Frameless cabinets are easier for placing items in the cabinet. They also make it thicker and is more expensive.

Things to look for when buying cabinets:

When buying cabinets, here are some of the things to look out for to tell if they are good quality cabinets. You want to make sure that the drawers and doors are made of solid wood. Make sure that the drawers slide smoothly and the cupboards preferably have bearings. If buying frameless cabinets, check where the door meets with the cabinet that it has at least half an inch thick. Make sure that the doors open easily. Also, if the cabinets are made of particle wood, this might bend from the weight of dishes over time. An extra feature on your cupboards that are nice to have is a soft close feature (this feature prevents cabinet drawers from slamming shut).
