Before you tile your bathroom, there are a few things that you need to know.
For instance, if you are new to tiling, it is often a good idea to do what we like to call a ” mini-training course.” In the long run, doing so can save you a lot of time and money. Not only will you learn the right technique, but you will also find out what equipment and other things that you will need.
Are All Tiles Made The Same?
The answer to that question is no. Shopping for tiles is often a minefield. You can buy anything from large tiles to small tiles, and you can even buy tile strips.
What are tile strips? Tile strips are many small tiles put together. They often come in different colors and are great for when you want to create an instant pattern in your bathroom. On top of that, they are easy to work with and, to be honest, they are good value for money.
Unsealed or non-glazed tiles don’t belong in the bathroom. They often look great but will not stay looking good for very long.
Should I Use Large Or Small Tiles?
When you tile a bathroom wall, it is best not to use large tiles. Instead, stick to smaller tiles that you can easily manipulate to create a pattern.
If you don’t want to create a pattern, you should still use smaller tiles. For some reason, they often look neater and more uniform.
Remember that you may not need to tile the entire wall or all of the walls in the bathroom. Try to work out the area you want to tile before you start. It will have an impact on how many tiles you need to buy and the design of your tiling project.
Large tiles are great for the floor. Is tiling a floor difficult? No, it isn’t but remember that you will be walking on it. It is best to use quality tiles and adhesives to make sure your hard work remains in place.
Should I Buy More Tiles Than I Need?
If you really like the tiles and are not thinking about changing your theme for a few years, it is a good idea to buy more tiles than you need. There is nothing more annoying than not being able to replace a broken tile with the same color tile.
That is why it is best to stock up on tiles when you are going tile shopping.
Does Color Matter?
Yes, it does. Some colors are cool and others are warm. You can go all white but that could potentially make your bathroom feel like an igloo. Is that really the effect that you are after? If you are hooked on light-colored tiles, it is a good idea to go for tiles with at least a splash of color.
Finally, don’t forget that a high-quality finish matters. Not only will it stop moisture and mold from taking hold, but it will ensure your newly tiled bathroom will look good for longer.
